We planned to use SAP MaxDB database for our SAP Demo Installations to save Database licensing cost.
Right now we are using Oracle DB for SAP Demo applications.
Is SAP charging for MaxDB database for Demo license? I think MaxDB database is free of cost for SAP Demos.
Anyone please help me to get calrity on MaxDB Free license for SAP Demo applications.

Yesterday, I started patching our Solution Manager system SID with maxdb server patch from 7.8.01.14 to 7.8.02.35 however at the end of the upgrade, I ran into a problem.
I have added 3 data files before the upgrade. They got added fine as I can see from dbm.prt file however i got the error below at the end of the upgrade where its trying to detach the newly created data files. Now maxdb wont start on its own at the end of the upgrade and doesn't finish loading system tables and catalog check which happens at the end of the server upgrade. I can start db manually and checked R3trans -d connectivity it works fine. However when i start the SDBUPD command to finish the server patch upgrade, i am unable to get it to work due to the detach failing.
Do I need to delete the newly created data files ??. We have SPS upgrade planned and we are stuck with the problem. Your quick help

The volumes I added just before starting patching are sapdb/SID/sapdata/DISKD0017,/sapdb/SID/sapdata/DISKD0018,/sapdb/SID/sapdata/DISKD0019. I can see the new data files via DBM and also dbmcli command line so there is no discrepancy with respect to the data files that got added. I dont think it got registered correctly. When I check dbm.prt it shows return code zero when i actually executed the volume additions however i see error below repeatedly in the dbm.prt file

We have a requirement wherein we have to calculate the Size of document present in SAP DMS.
I know that when we create a document through Transaction CV01N and suppose attach a TIFF file to it, and save it.
A unique document is created. All this data is stored in SAP DMS
I need to know is there any table where in the information related to file is stored i.e. What is total size of file / number of pages in file?
Suppose I need to migrate this file to External Repository and deleting the original from SAP DMS, how much used space will be freed??
What would be the impact on space of SAP DMS?

I use MaxDB 7.8.02.35 on SLES 11.2 (Kernel 3.0) OLTP & DBStudio 7.9.08.12
I wanted to resize (shrink) & relocate the logfiles. As I found out this is only possible with a backup/restore with initialization (Note 869267 - FAQ: SAP MaxDB log area ). Before backup the DB had Redo-Management deactivated for performance-reasons.
The Backup went fine as did the Recovery with initialization, all done through DBStudio.
But if I try to start the DB with db_online I get the following error:
-24988,ERR_SQL: SQL error
250,Duplicate secondary key
3,Database state: OFFLINE
Internal errorcode, Error code 3320 "duplicate_invkey"
db_admin works fine.
I tried the approach from Lars mentioned in http://scn.sap.com/thread/1803992 but it didn't help.
Also, as I didn't change any parameters during initialization, usernames and passwords should be the same as before, as is the DBSID and everything else.
Any ideas?

We are having SAP IDES 6.0 and NW Portal 7.02 in the same Windows 2008 server with MaxDB 7.6. Now we are planning to install Solution Manager 7.1 in the same server.
So we want upgrade MaxDB 7.6 to MaxDB 7.8, for that i have below queries.
1) Is it possible to upgrade from MaxDB 7.6 to 7.8 directly.
2) Upgrade should be done in all instances or any one instance.
3) Is Solution manager 7.1 can be installed with MaxDB 7.8.
We have downloaded the MaxDB 7.8 Software (51042685_10 for Windows) and MaxDB update software (51042685_12 for Windows). As per the standard upgrade document it says to run below command from the MAXDB_UPDATE folder
"DBUPDATE.BAT -s <SAPSID> –d <DBSID> -u <DBM,DBM password> [ -dir <temporary directory> ]"
I have a doubt that the download which i have (51042685_12) is only 240 KB. Whether we need to start upgrade from 51042685_12 software or 51042685_10 (In this DVD also DBUPDATE.BAT is available.

we use MaxDB 7.8.02.26 on SUSE Linux SLES11 SP2 for all our SAP systems (BI, ERP, Portal.... .
With SLES11 SP3 raw device is no longer supported by Suse.
Question: How can i change the raw devices for the data area and log area to files?

we have done upgrade for MaxDB version from 7.3 to 7.5 (windows 2003), it seems upgrade done successfully but when i check the DB version it showing old version like 7.3. before run the upgrade command i took the full DB backup also and i switched DB mode from online to offline. even i don't find any kind of upgrade log file also. please check below error screenshot and help us to resolve this issue.

Hello,
as of patch MaxDB 7.9.08.11 this parameter speeds up the restart of the database. I could even verify this, with a database usually needed 15 minutes to start and now starts within 5 minutes.
Unfortunately I can not find a useful documentation of this parameter. So I have a few questions.
Which value should be used (even default value 0 seems to speed up the start of the database)?
Which influence has this parameter to the database (smaller cache usage, higher impact at starting, any dangers)?
Has anyone got experience with this parameter?

We are getting an alert in Live Cache alert monitor :No update of the Optimizer statistics in the last 3 months, in APO system.
APO system database on DB2 and Live cache on SAP DB. I have no idea on SAP DB Optimizer statistics.
Suppose, if No update of the Optimizer statistics running in the system , any drawbacks

Good morning experts.
I am a Basis Architect and working towards setting up our SAP environment to support near Zero downtime. I have successfully setup our SQL Server databases, NW Instances and even TREX to support that model.
I am looking for some suggestions on how to setup HA on the SAP content server. Currently we are moving our SAP content (attachments to PO/Invoices, Marketing attachments etc. from our ECC and CRM systems to SAP content Server. Also archiving stuff is moved to the content Server. This makes the Content Server critical for business. Therefore any downtime is an outage for business.
SAP does not have a HA model for SAP content server(at least I could not find any information). the maxDB part does support failover clustering but for the Content server IIS services, I could not find any information. I am looking for a multi node HA model where I can achieve High Availability for incidents, like if the server crashes, there is another instance it can automatically failover to. Also during any maintenance I can work node by node without causing any outage.
we have a VMware virtual environment on windows. I am open to suggestions using the technologies provided by VMware and supported by SAP.
I know I can start using a non SAP utility to manage content like Opentext, IBM Content management, but these solutions are like a blackhole. Once you get into them, there is no way out unless you are willing to spend millions. Also of-course SAP Content Server is free and we have a single point of support.

we're having a problem with the current ODBC drivers.
Environment:
Client - Windows 7 (64Bit), ODBC drivers for both 32Bit & 64Bit (latest installation package maxdb-all-win-64bit-x86_64-7_8_02_37.exe)
Server - Linux 64 Bit with MaxDB version 7.8.01.18
Problem:
With the new ODBC 32Bit drivers it isn't possible to use the mode 'ORACLE'.

The driver treats pseudo column ROWNUM as table column. That's why it's producing an error.
With a very old version of ODBC driver for 32 Bit (7.6.0.0, Build 037-121-149-748) it's not producing this error, but the driver is very slow.
With mode 'INTERNAL' the ODBC driver is working fine in the latest build.
Is there something that I'm missig ?

Background:
DB Version: 7.6 (.38 - I believe)
I received a report that queries weren't returning results and isolated the problem to a table that appears to have been truncated. The table wasn't terribly large 35K rows with 3 columns. The table didn't appear to be corrupt as I was able to select from it (0 rows returned) and subsequently load data from a restored copy (restored to another database then used an ETL tool to select from the restored copy and insert into the existing table). There is no code in the application that deletes from this application and the few people who have direct access to the DB state they didn't execute any such queries that would have resulted in the deletion of all of the records in this table.
Question:
How can I investigate the cause of the error based on logs/diagnostics/log replay/etc?
